TRAC

TRAC: Telefonía rural de acceso celular or “Rural cellular access telephone”: fixed telephone (at costs of a fixed telephone) based on the Spanish mobile telephone network. This system was designed to allow a telephone access to rural isolated and relatively unpopulated areas of Spain, without having to pay the high costs of normal phone lines.

This was no bad idea, but when internet came, the operators noticed that the bandwidth of the system was totally insufficient. Since 2002, with the help of the European Union, the Spanish remote countryside start being fitted with conventional phone lines, and even sometime high capacity cables.
